Suggestions for club policy
> No longer require checking the advance/decline line when recovering from cash mode after both the Dow and the S&P 500 break into new highs. APPROVED
> Long-term stocks become laggard when they fall below 70% annualized rate of return. When selling stock to raise cash when the market analysis is in Cash Mode, sell long-term laggards before short-term non-laggards. APPROVED Oct-2007
> Add a note to long-term sell rule #2 to check for weekly volume at the end of the week
> If there is an announcement of an agreement for another company to buy-out a stock we own, change to Sell Status regardless of short-term/long-term status. (Approved by email discussion)
> Expand and improve financial analysis of stocks, use quarterly numbers if possible, maybe use multiple years for some values to show trends. Debt and cashflow might be good things to track. Good if cashflow per share is greater than earnings per share.
> In the trading simulation add a parameter for number of days in the moving average for the long-term sell signal
> Record stocks that break out of a base but don't meet our buy criteria, to help improve our fundamental stock analysis
> Use volume on the break-out day to judge the quality of the break out. Maybe use volume somehow to help determine when to take a stock off the list that broke out but then dropped by a large amount.
> Rethink long-term approval criteria, maybe put emphasis on FVIT rating.
> Research project: analyze past investments to determine whether or not "Profit Status" sell rules have provided a benefit
> Maybe use market capitalization (at breakout) rather than number of outstanding shares. Research wether this makes for a better FVIT rating.
> Continue simulation experiments on market analysis rules. (SF)
> Check day-after breakout for down on high (double normal) volume. Is this a clear signal to sell quickly? (NK)
> Look at other indices for evaluation of market mode. Would, for instance, the Russel 2000 or S&P 400 more accurately predict the performance of our stocks? (SF)
> Investigate what it would take to offer automatic monthly investments from a member's checking account
Suggestions for the web site
FINANCIAL
> Add view of full financial record
> Allow customized view of a single member's account with password protection
> Maybe add market analysis mode line to FVIT chart
INVESTING
> Retain break-out date on watch list after a partial purchase
> For stocks on the watch list, keep track of whether or not they ever had long-term status (internal data field, not displayed in the table)
> For long-term stocks on the hold list, automatically check for big weekly volume if possible
> Add market analysis page, show current market mode, add automatic market watcher
> Manuualy entered data in the investment history page for stocks that were sold before the history page was operational should be double checked for errors.
> Add "Hall of Fame" and batting average to investment history page
> Track performance of stocks not purchased as well as past investments, including stocks that were presented but rejected by vote
> For a watch stock that broke out, send email reminder to remove it if it drop below the price where the stop would have been if we bought it at the signal price
> When a stock with long-term status hits the 200-day average, the instructions in the automatic email should be to go to profit status, not stop status
> When the automatic watcher adjusts a stock's stop and target for a pre-entered dividend distribution, it should also add the dividend to the cash amount.
> Have batting average use +/- 3% for winner/loser criteria.
VOTING
> Require a stock presentation if a member has only a hold stock that was purchased more than 6 weeks ago
> Send automated e-mail when a stock up for vote breaks out (or maybe when it is very close to breaking out)
> For required vote 75/100%, separate requirement to buy and long-term
> For the "remove" feature of the watch list, add a text box for the reason and email it to the team
> Include entire discussion thread in automatic email when someone adds a comment.
> When a presentation is a week old and there are two or fewer people left to vote, maybe use proxies to automatically complete the vote.
> When the last quarter EPS is "up", interpret this as >20% and do not require 100% vote.
> Add a note to initial comments if stock already broke out (requires change to StockCruncher first)
OTHER
> Add automatic daily backup of data files
> Add page for club news, maybe move calendar to this area
> Add "scrapbook" of interesting historical items to general info page
> Develop our own password protection scheme to allow users to change their own passwords
> Add a log of rule breakers
> Add cell phone, office held, and vote proxy to member settings
> Make a nicer main page
> Automatically number these suggestions
Suggestions for Stock Cruncher
> Fonts on presentation sheet are too big on some computers
> When a presentation is opened, default to a maximized document window within the application.
> Improve the EPS growth rate calculation so it works better for short history and large jumps
> Add feature to adjust all EPS values for a stock split
> Update presentation view only when user changes a value, not when just tabbing through a field
> Once in a while a new presentation window shows an invalid huge value overflowing the PE box
> Add FVIT logo to the presentation view
> On quarterly tab, add label to show the units for sales
> Add an entry for break-out date for stocks that recently broke out
> Revisit the method for updating the 2-year high date and base duration. There have been cases where updates for stocks on the watch list did not have updated base duration, but when a historical presentation is viewed we don't want the base duration to be recalculated based on today's date, resulting in an invalid long duration and loss of the original base duration used for voting.
